Costa Rica has one of the most advanced coffee industries in Central America with the Tarrazu region being one of its most highly regarded. Tarrazu coffee is located due south of San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, within an area sheltered between the Pacific Coast, the Central Valley and the high peaks of the country’s central mountain range and blessed with rich volcanic soil, high altitudes and a perfect combination of sunlight, precipitation and temperature. This magnificent area, also known as the Area of the Saints, is considered to yield the most superb Strictly Hard Bean coffees, SHB coffees, in Costa Rica and possibly the world.

One criticism associated with Costa Rican coffee is that it's too clean, too well balanced and too perfect. Costa Rica coffee used to be cultivated on large scale farms that were micro-managed to the nth degree, resulting in the lifeless, too perfect coffees that we came to associate with the Tarrazu region. Fortunately change has occurred and farms are decreasing in size and output in order to concentrate on quality and originality. Now farms are taking interest in producing coffee that is unique to them and unique in flavour, perfect for the gourmet coffee industry.

Our Costa Rica Tarrazu coffee beans are slow roasted to a medium roast giving deep body and vivid brightness, with floral and clean fruit notes.
