Earl Grey black leaf tea is one of the most popular and widely drunk flavoured black teas in the world. The tea was originally named after Charles Grey who during the 1830's, was the acting Prime Minister to King William IV. Legend says that Earl Grey was passed the famous recipe by a Chinese official who's sons' life the Earl had saved. This has never been proven and is fiercely contested by other inventors of the classic tea.
Our Earl Grey black leaf tea is a blend of Indian, Ceylon and Chinese tea flavoured with its key ingredient, Bergamot. Bergamot flavour derives from a small Vietnamese orange that possesses highly acidic qualities that equal our western varieties of orange, but also contain subtle pear sweetness too.
Earl Grey tea is classically balanced by carefully selecting and blending high quality Chinese, Ceylon and Indian (Assam) teas that are then further enhanced by the refreshing flavour of Bergamot. This tea is superb on its own, but will also accept milk and sugar easily too.
