Guatemala coffee is rated amongst some of the best coffee produced world wide. The reason such high regard is given to these wonderful coffees is because the farms have not yet succumbed to removing the low-yield, high quality trees currently planted in favour for high-yield, low quality ones. This is a good thing for a country that sees most of it's workforce falling bellow the poverty line. High quality Arabica coffee from Guatemala heads straight for the gourmet coffee market and as a result, much of the higher price paid for green beans get distributed to the growers and farmers.

Guatemalan coffees tend to be grown in large estates - haciendas, or small Fincas, small-holding farms, most of whom follow Rainforest Alliance guidelines and many are Shade-Grown. Our Guatemala Finca Nueva Monterosa is Rainforest Alliance Certified and Shade grown, so all effort is made to retain the natural flora and fauna, protect the farm workforce through ethical trading and pay schemes, as well as promoting environmental awareness and development.
