Russian Caravan black leaf tea is a classic blend of Chinese Oolong, Keemun and Lapsang Souchong. The name, "Russian Caravan" originates from 18th century camel caravans that transported tea from gardens in China, through Mongolia, Russia and into Europe. Along this route, that took up to six months to arrive at its destination, the tea cargo took on an aged appearance and flavour. Some say that the "smoky", deep flavour of Russian Caravan tea originated from the wandering campfire smoke produce by the tea traders, which would envelope the tea as the caravan rested over night. Nowadays, this smoky flavour is replicated by introducing Lapsang Souchong, which goes through a hickory smoking process during its production.
Russian Caravan black leaf tea is perfect for drinking after a meal. The heavy, deep aromas and smoky tones are perfectly balanced by Oolong, which adds subtle softness to the dark coloured cup.
