Buying Ethiopian coffee is made difficult by the way the Ethiopian Commodities Exchange (ECX) operates. The coffee is given a numerical value when graded, describing whether it is washed or natural but all other information is stripped away. All we know about this coffee is that it’s a washed Grade 1 from the Woreda of Aricha in Yirgacheffe. That’s it.
Don’t let the lack of information or transparency put you off this ace offering. Expect all the classic hallmarks of a great Yirgacheffe; bright with lemon sherbet and grapefruit acidity, a creamy body that’s light and tea like. Of course, there’s the obligatory floral ripeness and a hint of honey on the nose.
